Lexington, KY:
Hepcats! Now, for a bit of shameless self
promotion! The Hepcats is the only dance organization in
Lexington/central Kentucky that provides instruction and swing dance events that
emphasizes the original
swing dances of the 1930's and 40's: Lindy Hop, Balboa and Collegiate Shag.
The Hepcats also sponsor several swing dances each year with LIVE music, the
quality of which is not often seen in Lexington. |

Kentucky Jazz
Repertory Orchestra (KJRO). KJRO, co-directed by University of
Kentucky School of Music Professors Dick Domek and Miles Osland, is a 17-member
professional ensemble dedicated to the preservation and performance of jazz
music. KJRO is a band that is especially suited for and highly skilled at
recreating authentic swing-era arrangements of the great big bands: Jimmie
Lunceford, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Artie Shaw, Harlan
Leonard, to mention just a few. KJRO members consist of the finest and
most talented faculty members, alumni and musicians from Kentucky area colleges
and universities. Many of the songs KJRO plays are not played very often at
live music venues in their original arrangement by your average "big band" or
"swing band" due to their technical difficulty. If you get a
chance to attend a swing dance (or a concert) featuring KJRO, don't miss it! |
