|
Mission:
The mission of the Rhythm
Cats is to elevate the level of swing dancing and public awareness in the
Lexington/central Kentucky area about swing dancing by providing a creative,
fun and safe outlet for those swing dancers that want to participate in a
performance group. |
|
|
|
Mike & Mary's Vision for the Rhythm
Cats: |
|
We want the
Rhythm Cats to become an enriching part of the Lexington/central Kentucky
community, and also provide a creative outlet for individual dancers
interested in pursuing swing dance more deeply and intensively.
Participation in Rhythm Cats activities will help swing dancers develop not
only individually, but also as a group. The Rhythm Cats will require
commitment from its member, but will also provide a place for those who can
only dedicate time or energy in a limited way. |
|
|
|
Goals and Objectives: |
|
● weekly rehearsals
(in the spring and fall) |
|
● performances as opportunities arise |
|
● development of Lexington/central KY
area swing dancers individually and as a group |
|
● participation as a performance group in
local, regional and national swing dance events |
|
|
Participation: A
person’s current ability level is not important, although basic proficiency
in Lindy Hop and/or Balboa is helpful. As a member of the Rhythm
Cats, we’ll all learn some really cool steps, patterns and moves. For those with
little experience, the desire to develop as a Lindy Hop and Balboa dancer is
key. For those more experienced Lindy Hop and Balboa dancers, the desire to
continue to grow and develop is key.
Note: it is the sole decision of the Team Director and Activities
Coordinator on the acceptance of individuals as a Rhythm Cats member; and on
the participation of individual members in the any rehearsal, activity
or event. |
|
|
|
Style:
The Rhythm Cats will emphasize Lindy Hop and Balboa styles of swing dance.
While we want to develop a uniform team “look”, individuals are encouraged
to develop their own unique style and dancing personality within that Lindy
Hop and Balboa framework. |
|
|
|
Personal
Improvement:
Team members are strongly encouraged to continue working on improving their
dance skills outside of the performance group. Sign up for
classes, attend
workshops, practice, go
to
Hepcats swing dances, become a “student” of the
teaching, learning and evaluating process for Lindy Hop and Balboa, etc.
Team members are
encouraged to participate in Jam Circles at swing dances they attend.
In addition, team members are also encouraged to participate in local,
regional, and national competitions as individual dancers, i.e. Jack & Jill,
Jill & Jack, Couples Contest, etc. The Rhythm Cats plan on competing in
local and regional team competitions; and as a long term goal, in a national competition. |
