Hepcats!
Lexington, KY

Dedicated to the original swing dances of the
1930's and 40's
swing-era, Lindy Hop,
Balboa & Collegiate Shag
,
and the great swing music
of that era!

Celebrating 11 years of teaching and promoting the best in all things swing dance!

The Rhythm Cats!
The Rhythm Cats is
a Lindy Hop Performance Group
sponsored by the Hepcats Swing Dance Club.

The Hepcats believe that competition type activities (of course, friendly and fun competitions) are beneficial to helping improve any Lindy Hop/Balboa swing dancer.  One of the best ways for an individual to take their swing dancing to the "next level" is to participate in a performance group, in jam circles, in a couples or jack & jill contest, etc.  These activities get the competitive juices flowing and are often the catalyst for individual improvement.

Lexington, KY.

Team Director/Choreographer:  Mary Richardson

Participation.  Basic proficiency in Lindy Hop and/or Balboa is helpful.  No matter what your current proficiency level
the desire to develop, and the ability to improve as a Lindy Hop and Balboa swing dancer is key.

Note:  it is the sole decision of the Team Director and Activities Coordinator on the acceptance of individuals as a performance group member; and on the participation of individual members in any performance group rehearsal, activity or event.

Rehearsals.  Rehearsals are currently on Monday nights.  Contact Mike Richardson at 859-420-2426 or

Mission:  The mission of the Rhythm Cats is to elevate the level of swing dancing and public awareness in the
Lexington/central Kentucky area about swing dancing by providing a creative, fun and safe outlet for those swing dancers that want to participate in a performance group, and take their swing dancing to the "next level".
Mike & Mary's Vision for the Rhythm Cats:

We want the Rhythm Cats to become an enriching part of the Lexington/central Kentucky community, and also provide
a creative outlet for individual dancers interested in pursuing swing dance more deeply and intensively.  Participation in
Rhythm Cats activities will help swing dancers develop not only individually, but also as a group.  The Rhythm Cats will require commitment from its member, but will also provide a place for those who can only dedicate time or energy in a limited way.

Goals and Objectives:
● weekly regular rehearsals (in the spring and fall); other rehearsals as required.
● performances as opportunities arise
● development of Lexington/central KY area swing dancers individually and as a group
● participation as a performance group in local, regional and national swing dance events

Style:  As a member of the Rhythm Cats, we’ll all learn some really cool steps, patterns and moves.  The Rhythm Cats will emphasize Lindy Hop and Balboa styles of swing dance.  While we want to develop a uniform team “look”, individuals are encouraged to develop their own unique style and dancing personality within that Lindy Hop and Balboa framework.

Personal Improvement:  Team members are strongly encouraged to continue working on improving their
dance skills outside of the performance group.
Sign up for classes, attend workshops, practice, go to
Hepcats swing dances, become a “student” of the teaching, learning and evaluating process for Lindy Hop and Balboa, etc.  Team members are
encouraged to participate in Jam Circles at swing dances they attend.  In addition,  team members are also encouraged to participate in local, regional, and national competitions as individual dancers, i.e. Jack & Jill, Jill & Jack, Couples Contest, etc.  The Rhythm Cats plan on competing in local and regional team competitions; and as a long term goal, in a national competition.
