Top Cat Challenge |
The Hepcats believe
that
competition type activities (of course, friendly and
fun competitions) are beneficial to helping improve
any Lindy Hop/Balboa dance scene. One
of the best ways for
an individual to take their swing dancing to the
"next level" is to participate in jam circles, a
performance group, a couples contest, a Jack and
Jill contest, etc. These activities get the
competitive juices flowing and are often a
catalyst for individual improvement.
And friendly and healthy dance competitions also
bring excitement and enthusiasm to the swing dance
scene, and often inspire other swing dancers to take
their dancing to the next level! |

Jack &
Jill Contest |
|
If you're new to competing, this is the contest for
you! You'll enter as an individual and dance
with randomly chosen partners through 3-4 rounds at
different tempos of music. Jack & Jill
contests are a lot of fun -- so whether you're new
to competing or a more experienced competitor, sign
up for this contest! |
|
Schedule/Rules |
●
For the
Preliminary round of the Jack & Jill contest,
dancers will rotate. This round will take
place during the band's first break (approx. 9:30
pm). Each dancer will dance with at least 3 other
dancers to a slow, medium and fast tempo song.
●
Leaders and
followers will be selected individually to advance
to the finals, but will be judged on how well they
dance with their partner. |
●
The results
for the Preliminary Jack & Jill round will be
posted on the wall near the refreshment tables. |
|
|
|
Anything
goes for the Jack & Jill and Couples
contest in both the Preliminary and Finals, but be
sure what you do on the dance floor is
safe! |
|
|
|
●
The Finals for the Jack & Jill contest
will take place during the band's second break
(approx. 10:30 pm). |
●
Finalists
will be randomly paired and compete as a couple in a
Jam format.
●
The results
for the Finals will be announced approx.
20-30 minutes after the completion of the
competition. |
|
|
Couples Contest |
|
These are the contests that offer a lot of
excitement, creativity, and fun - for audience
members and competitors alike! So get yourself
a dance partner, enter this contest, and strut your
stuff! |
|
Schedule/Rules |
●
The couples
contest will consist of a Preliminary Round
that will take place during the band's first break
(approx. 9:45 pm).
●
There will
be a non-judged all skate, followed by 2-3 heats,
with each couple dancing to 2-3 songs at middle-fast
tempos.
●
Once the
heats are complete, all the couples may dance to
another song if this is felt necessary by the
judges.
●
The results
for the Preliminary Round will be posted on
the wall near the refreshment tables. |
|
|
|
Note you are being judged against all couples in all
heats. The couples selected for the Finals
round will be the best of the entire group of
couples. |
|
|
|
●
The Finals for the couples contest
will take place during the band's second break
(approx. 10:45 pm). |
|
●
Finalists
will compete in this round in a Jam format. |
|
●

for the Finals will be announced approx.
20-30 minutes after the completion of the
