UK Jazz Ensemble image
The University of Kentucky (UK) Jazz Ensemble consists of
the most talented students in the nationally recognized
and award winning UK Jazz Studies program.

 The UK Jazz Ensemble is directed by UK Music Professor Miles OslandMiles Osland is a Professor of Saxophone and Director of Jazz Studies at UK.  He is well known as a distinguished music educator, recording and performing artist, author, arranger and composer.

At this dance the UK Jazz Ensemble will play a number of songs that are considered swing-era classics.  Many of these songs are not played very often at live music venues in their original arrangement by your average "big band" or "swing band" due to their technical difficulty.

 Some of the songs for this dance will include these gems:

Jimmie Lunceford:
  Lunceford Special; For Dancers Only; Four or Five Times;
                                        Baby Won't You Please Come Home.
  Benny Goodman:  Swingtime in the Rockies; Sing, Sing, Sing.
  Duke Ellington:  Ring Dem Bells; Take the "A" Train; Rockin' in Rhythm; Tiger Rag;
                                   Drop Me Off in Harlem.
  Count Basie:  Jumpin' at the Woodside; Doggin' Around; It's Sand, Man.
  Artie Shaw:  Back Bay Shuffle.
  Harlan Leonard:  Skee; Hairy Joe Jump; Too Much.
  Lionel Hampton:  Flying Home.
  ► Glenn Miller:  String of Pearls; Pennsylvania 6-5000, Tuxedo Junction.

Table Reservation Form.

Note:  requests for Table Reservations must be postmarked by Jan. 27th.

Why reserve a table for this event?

There will be plenty of tables and chairs at this event.
And most swing dancers don't sit that much anyway --
we're out on the dance floor!

But for those that desire a table where they can better see the band, we recommend you reserve a table.

Those tables not reserved will be available on a
first-come, first-serve basis in the Grand Ballroom starting at 7:00 pm on Jan. 31st.
